About Dr. Arnab Chanda

Dr. Arnab Chanda recently joined as an Assistant Professor in the Centre for Biomedical Engineering (CBME), IIT Delhi. He holds a PhD in Aerospace Engineering and Mechanics from the University of Alabama and is also the founder of BIOFIT Technologies LLC, USA. At Alabama, Arnab worked on development of biofidelic surrogates for soft tissues such as the human skin, muscles, brain, artery, and plantar fascia. These experimental models were used to characterize soft tissue damage due to impact loads and disease. Also, novel wearable devices (i.e., custom orthotics) were developed using these biomaterials for technology transfer. Arnab also was a postdoctoral researcher for a year and half at the Department of Bioengineering, University of Pittsburgh, where he studied the effect of footwear on gait abnormalities (i.e., slips and falls). Arnab will be establishing a Gait and Biomimetics lab to study soft tissue pathophysiology (i.e. plantar fasciitis) and their effects on gait. The overall goal will be to develop effective prosthetic and orthotic interventions for lab-to-market transfer.
